Oklahoma City to Host Free Seminar Focused on Senior Safety and Awareness
Older adults in Oklahoma City will have the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and resources at an upcoming community event designed specifically with their needs in mind. The Informed Senior Seminar is scheduled for Friday, May 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and will take place at the OSU-OKC Student Center, located at 900 N. Portland Ave. 3rd Floor
This no-cost event aims to equip seniors with practical information to help them stay safe, confident, and connected in both their daily lives and the digital world. Organizers are bringing together local law enforcement, public safety officials, and community experts to share insights and answer questions.
One of the main highlights of the seminar will be a panel discussion centered on AI literacy and online safety. Representatives from local law enforcement agencies will guide attendees through the challenges and risks associated with modern technology, offering advice on how to navigate digital spaces more securely.
Participants can also choose from several breakout sessions covering a variety of relevant topics. These include tips for staying safe on social media platforms, understanding the risks associated with lithium-ion batteries, recognizing and avoiding home repair scams, and learning about updated nutrition and healthy living practices.
In addition to the educational sessions, the event will feature community engagement opportunities. Attendees will be able to interact with local organizations, ask questions, and gather helpful resources. Animal lovers may also enjoy meeting adoptable pets available through the city’s animal welfare program, with all animals already vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed or neutered. Free pet ID tags will also be offered during the event.
Organizers emphasize that the seminar is not just about information, but about building confidence and fostering stronger community connections among seniors.
